Obituary for Mabel Austin (Kirby)

Mabel Kirby Austin, age 87, of Granite Falls, passed away March 25, 2017, at Hickory Falls Health and Rehab in Granite Falls. She was born June 8, 1929, daughter of the late William Gamewell Kirby and Bertha Mae McRary Kirby.

In addition to her parents, Mabel was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, John David Austin; three brothers, James, Andrew and Gus Kirby; four sisters, Ruth Cline, Dot Michaels, Sue Williams and Judy Wilson.

Mrs. Austin is survived by her son Michael Austin and wife Cindy of Hudson; granddaughters; Lydia Austin Hensley and husband Teddy of Conover, Jennifer Austin Watts and husband Patrick of Granite Falls, Tara Austin Harrawood and husband Hank of Belmont and grandson Tanner Austin of Greenville, NC. Mrs. Austin also has one great-granddaughter: Kaylee Alexis and a sister; Nancy Leach and husband Bob of Burlington and a brother; Fred Kirby and wife Dot of Granite Falls.

Visitation for Mrs. Austin will take place on Monday, March 27, 2017 at 11:00-12:00 at Temple Hill Baptist Church with the Service to follow at 12:00 PM in the Sanctuary officiated by Rev. Darrell Hatchell and Rev. Lynn Parsons. Burial will be in the Temple Hill Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Bruce Kirby, Ryan Kirby, Terry Kirby, Trevor Kirby, Jeff Kirby, and Cody
Kirby.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the kind staff at Hickory Falls Health and Rehab in Granite Falls for the excellent care they gave to Mrs. Austin.
