Obituary for Hubert Sidney "Poke" Cook

Hubert Cook, age 77, of Granite Falls went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Saturday, January 20, 2018, at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care, Hudson, NC. He was born April 29, 1940, son of the late Lenoir and Flossie Powell Cook.

Poke was an avid gardener who had a very green thumb. He loved his family, the outdoors, and his church family. He was employed as a fixer with Shuford Mills for over 50 years, as well as forming his own textile company, Flame Fabrics, with his wife.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Marilyn Triplett Cook; two sisters, Beulah Parlier and Lola Dale; two brothers, Luther Cook and Howard Cook.

Those left to cherish his memory are two sons, Jeff Cook and wife Beth of Hudson, Scott Cook and wife Emily of Hudson; one daughter, Kelly Cook Taylor of Granite Falls; one brother, Earl Cook of Granite Falls; two sisters, Doris Pruitt of Hudson, Evelyn Phillips of Granite Falls; three grandchildren, Jonathan Cook, Caroline Taylor, Evan Cook; two great-grandchildren, Piper Tarr, Paisley Cook.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, January 23, 2018, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Philadelphia Lutheran Church. The funeral service will follow at 12:00 PM with Rev. Diane Cline officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Hills Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Philadelphia Lutheran Church, 52 Pinewood Road, Granite Falls, NC 28630 or to Caldwell County Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 902 Kirkwood Street, Lenoir, NC 28645.
